AnnaSophia Robb to Play Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries

The actress will star in Sex and the City prequel, Variety announced the lucky break!

The CW has selected a relative unknown AnnaSophia, 18, from a pool of hopeful actresses — Emma Roberts and Blake Lively — to play Carrie in its much-anticipated fall pilot The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to HBO’s Sex and the City.

AnnaSophia is best known for playing one-armed surfer Bethany Hamilton in the 2011 biopic Soul Surfer, a movie chronicling the shark attack that claimed the 13-year-old’s arm, as well as her eventual comeback.

You’ll be able to see her as Wendy in 2012’s Pan.

The Warner Bros. series is based on Sex scribe Candace Bushnell‘s novel, The Carrie Diaries. The author, along with Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein and Amy B. Harris, will produce.

The Carrie Diaries will chronicle Carrie’s coming of age in Manhattan in the ‘80s, long before penning her sex column and obsessing over Manolo Blahniks.

Sarah Jessica Parker first made the character of Carrie iconic in 1998 when the original series aired on HBO.

The series, which will also star Running Wilde‘s Stefania Owen as Carrie‘s little sister Dorritt, It is expected that she will meet her three small screen best friends – Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda – in the prequel.

AnnaSophia was born on December 8, 1993 in Denver, Colorado. She is a film and television actress. She gained prominence in 2005 with starring roles in Because of Winn-Dixie and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She is also known for Bridge to Terabithia (2007), Race to Witch Mountain (2009), and Soul Surfer (2011).

AnnaSophia is the daughter of Janet, an interior designer, and David, an architect. She is of English, Scottish, Danish, Swedish, and Irish descent.

AnnaSophia competed in dance and gymnastics for four and a half years, but quit in order to focus on acting. She is a Christian.
