Spring/Summer Paris Fashion Week
The 27-year-old Dutch designer is already taking the fashion world by storm and has just unveiled her second collection as a guest member of the very exclusive haute couture club.
Iris van Herpen, whose fans include Bjork and Lady Gaga.
Singer Beth Ditto said she had ‘chills’ watching Van Herpen‘s show.
She raved: ‘This is my first couture show, ever, and seriously I am moved. I had chills the whole time. It’s going to be really hard to blow my mind over and above this.’
Van Herpen said backstage that she loved to experiment.
She said: ‘My best things come out of experiments. Once I know what I’m doing, I lose my focus. I need the pressure that it might not work. With materials, once I know one, I move on to the next one.’
The designer added that she didn’t like to rely too much on technology.
“I’m curious for the future, always looking for the unknown. But at the same time I’m not a computer girl at all.
‘I like to work with round shapes, a lot of my dresses are not symmetrical – if you work too much with machines, it takes the life out of it.’
Iris van Herpen (born 1984 Wamel, The Netherlands) started her own label Iris van Herpen in 2007. She studied Fashion Design at ARTEZ (Arnhem) and did internships at Alexander McQueen in London and Claudy Jongstra in Amsterdam.
