Proceeds from the Wells Fargo Symphony Derby benefit the Dallas Symphony’s Education and Outreach Programs such as the Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concert Series, the Young Strings program, and Symphony YES! These programs have tremendous impact on children in the Dallas area. In the current 2012-2013 season, more than 25,000 students attended the Symphony’s Youth Concerts. The Young Strings program discovers, develops and promotes the musical talents of African-American and Latino string students. The Young Strings program is celebrating its 21th anniversary in June 2013. Symphony YES! creates an environment for students in grades K-6 and their teachers in which DSO musicians introduce instruments, perform a variety of music, and interact with the children. Annually, 4,500 students participate in this program.
