Pet Cause:

A close friend once told me that life isn’t about what’s in it for us but what’s in US for others. Therefore, I have several pet causes. BUT I do spend most of my time lately on two very special causes. One is my Wellness Ambassadors platform that began back in college and blossomed during my reign as Miss Black DC USA 2012. I am excited to develop that platform into an organization targeted at encouraging continuing education for adults who would like to develop new workforce skills or transition careers. Occupational health is an important and often overlooked aspect of overall wellness! Second, is a powerful up and coming organization for which I sit on the Board of Directors, Girls’ Health Ed.!

Why is this cause so dear to you:

Eradicating health disparities has always been a focus of mine. I believe that everyone deserves an equal chance at living their healthiest, best quality of life. So, when Sarah Hillware, Founder & Director of Girls’ Health Ed., asked me to be involved with the organization, I couldn’t say no. Encouraging girls ages 8-17 to 100% love who they are by instilling in them the principles of a healthy lifestyle is vital to ensuring their success as adults. I have a lot on my plate between working full time, pursing a Ph.D and dreaming big, but being involved in Girls’ Health Ed. truly does tie it all together and reminds me that all the hard work is for a greater cause.

Next noteworthy fundraiser:

This Thursday, January 23rd Girls’ Health Ed.’s One Year Anniversary Shindig at the St. Regis Washington, DC. I am SO proud of all this organization has accomplished over the past year. With such a wonderful leader, board, consultant committee, volunteers and other advisors the potential of Girls’ Health Ed. is limitless!
