Benefiting the Chicagoland affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, celebrates the ten Pink Tie Guys, men making a difference in breast cancer research.
October 13, 2011
6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You know the statistics: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. One in every 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
In Chicago alone, 8,700 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Breast cancer is not limited to women; it affects men, too, and some of its greatest advocates are men. While awareness events are being held across the country, here’s one local event featuring men who make a difference.
Tribune Media Group will host the first annual Pink Tie Gala to benefit the Chicagoland Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The event will honor the inaugural class of Komen Chicago Pink Tie Guys, a select group of men making a difference in the Chicagoland and breast cancer communities.
Chaired by former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley
The Pink Tie Guys represent a wide range of male leaders who live in the Chicagoland community and have a personal connection to breast cancer or dedication to philanthropy. These men were nominated by the community and selected by the Komen Chicagoland Board of Directors.
The first class includes:

Larry Wert — President and General Manager, NBC 5 Chicago
Stephen Bonner — CEO and President of Cancer Treatment Centers of America

The evening will feature award-winning cuisine from Chicago’s top chefs, cocktails and live music.
The Pink Tie Guys will serve as ambassadors for Komen Chicago for a calendar year, attending the Affiliate’s signature events, including Dancing with Chicago Celebrities on March 9, 2012 and the Komen Chicagoland Race for the Cure® on September 22, 2012.
