Erica Dines at BOE Restaurant and Bar

777 9th Street NW has been transformed from a swank sushi lounge to a contemporary log cabin serving American fare. What does Erica recommend?

OYA, the beloved sushi heaven, in the heart of Penn Quarter, is now BOE Restaurant and Bar! This new eclectic gem offers a warm and rustic vibe, like no other in the area. The layout has remained the same but the furnishings and design are completely transformed. White leather, marble, and sleek lines are now replaced with dark lumbered walls, adorned with cow skulls, ornate chandeliers, dimly lit lanterns, and dramatic pillars draped with rustic chains. The ambiance takes to you a log cabin in Wyoming!

The cocktail list provides spirits for everyone’s fancy. Get the night started with The Blind Pig, which is their bourbon punch. It’s my favorite and it provides a light, summer-like flavor to contrast the warm and cozy comfort food offerings. Another favorite is True Beauty. The name, alone, will peak your interest.

The food menu boasts a fun selection of unique starters and entrees. I recommend beginning with the Cornmeal Dusted Oysters, perfected with a sweet remoulade and pineapple kimchi. If you thinking bold, try the balls on fire Rocky MountainOysters’. That’s right; they’re delicious crispy bull testicles. The Adobe Fried Chicken & Kimchi Donut wins as a unique take on the classic chicken and waffles. These rich bites are loaded with maple flavor and give balance to the crispy chicken. No syrup required! The #OYA throwback is a fun way to pay homage to the old with a twist on the new. This Banana Bread Pudding is the perfect way to finish off a great meal in the mountains. Its crispy outer shell with multiple layers of gooey goodness, paired with a rum raisin ice cream and a crispy banana, will satisfy.
