The Gryphon has reopened and transformed its look from DuPont Circle’s high-end sports bar to an upscale meat and raw bar social house.
The Lost Group, owners of The Gryphon and, its sister restaurant, Lost Society, have refocused their energy into making the venue a warm and comfortable environment with a share-focused menu, where friends and family can get together and enjoy fantastic food and drink with a phenomenal atmosphere.
The newly designed space provides an open ambiance with a tremendous raw bar as soon as you enter. With less televisions and a rustic and trendy feel, it’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and have great conversation over their succulent oysters and flavorful steak.
They have some of the best fresh seafood in the area. My personal favorites are the oysters on a half shell and the striped bass ceviche. These dishes are full of flavor and quite addictive.
Everything is served small-plate style and the meats are pre-cut to make it easier for sharing. The wet-aged hanger steak is a favorite. A tender cut with kick of peppercorn flavor goes well with their incredible mac-n-cheese and fried caesar brussels sprouts.
The “Centaur Kick” has to be the tastiest beverage on the menu. It’s a refreshing summer drink that mixes Jack Daniel’s Honey, DeKuyper Triple Sec, with a hint of sour mix. It’s served in a cold mason jar mug, on the rocks, and it’s amazing!
If you’re looking to try out The Gryphon after work, they’ve got a great “social hour” happy hour that’s Tuesday through Friday, from 4pm -7pm. The raw bar is half off the entire happy hour and they’ve feature half off drinks from 4pm – 5pm, and then add $1 from 5pm-6pm, and add $2 from 6pm-7pm.
They also offer Saturday brunch, from 11:30am to 4:30pm, with a bottomless brunch bar, priced at $14.50, to accompany their fabulous food menu and $20 without food.
They are open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:30am until close and they’re closed Sunday and Monday.
The Gryphon is certain to become a regular neighborhood choice this summer!
