Takeover Thursday: Smart is Sexy
Join us every Thursday as Erin Lyons takes a closer look at young entrepreneurs on the rise.
Iman Huschmand has always thrived in the spotlight. The owner of a Washington, D.C. entertainment and production company, Exclusively Entertainment, he realized early on that his true passion in life was entertaining people and making them dance, whether himself, or through the unique events he was producing. This led Iman to launch his business after completing grad school, following his passion and translating it into a tangible service wherein he produces weddings, corporate events, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, birthdays, and other social gatherings.
Every year, the company has had the goal of adding one new service offering. When the company was first launched, these were primarily DJ and MC services, but they have added others over the years, including dancers, lighting, white dance floors, and more recently, videography. Ultimately, Iman hopes to be a one-stop shop for events, such as weddings, the company’s specialty.
Another key element behind the success of Iman’s company has been its ability to thrive in the diverse and multicultural region of our nation’s capital. Many weddings and parties require a mixture of musical and entertainment options to keep all guests happy—both young and old—as well as catering to the incorporation of different cultural elements to make pivotal life moments truly exceptional.
Iman was kind enough to answer some of our rapid-fire questions:
What was your first job?
The first paycheck I ever deposited was as a summer camp counselor at the age of 16. I have always loved kids, and apparently entertaining is something that I enjoyed at an early age, because I tried very hard to make sure that all the campers had a great time.
Favorite local spot for power networking?
For better or worse, I actually don’t have a regular spot. Networking is such an integral part of any business owner, especially one that is involved with social events, so when I do have free time, I prefer to come across new organizations.
What will be your first splurge if you make it big?
I am blessed to have the bare necessities, but I would be lying if I said I would not like to have family and friends over on a boat at the Harbor. A modest-sized one of course.
… and the actor who would play you in your Biopic would be:
When I had longer hair, I had many people tell me I look like Adrian Grenier. I am not sure if that still holds true now that I have shorter (and grayer) hair, but that is the only person I can think of.
Is there something (product, service, person, etc.) you cannot live without in your everyday work life?
It’s a sad, sad confession, which I hope will one day change, but for now, as my friends will attest (and complain about), it would be my phone. With so many weddings and, now, the bridal show that I am producing for the first time, my phone allows me to keep up with all the e-mails that flow in on a daily basis.
