Takeover Thursday: Smart is Sexy

Join us every Thursday as Erin Lyons takes a closer look at young entrepreneurs on the rise.

At just 22 and 23 years old, respectively, Jaime Torreblanca and his brother, Juan, started local custom detailing company Epic Carwash & Detail, a mobile detailing business that uses a waterless wash and 100% biodegradable chemicals. Thanks to the company’s eco-friendly approach and unusual detailing techniques the company has quickly gained popularity through word-of-mouth, allowing the family business to grow, even being recognized earlier this year with the honor of receiving an “Under30CEO Award.”

Jaime and his family’s business epitomize what it means to be young, innovative entrepreneurs. Leaving their native Peru over 10 years ago, the pair has been inspired by the American dream and the desire to be financially independent, with the added benefit of being one’s own boss. Inspired by their love for cars and their commitment to the environment, this pair was able to develop an unparalleled clean-conscious technique that uses 90% less water than conventional detailers, meaning they could essentially work in your living room.

Jaime further honed in on his potential customers, realizing that the prohibitively over-scheduled lives of many of DC’s movers and shakers prevent them from maintaining the original clarity and depth on their luxury vehicles. So, why not make the service mobile, bring their technicians to you—whether at your home or office. Now, there are no excuses for not keeping a flawless factory gloss on your most treasured pair of wheels.

Jamie sat down with us and shed some light on how he got into the business and on his plans for the future:

Where do you see your business in ten years?

In ten years, I see the business set up as a franchise with at least 3 offices in the metropolitan area.

What was your first job?

My first job was in construction with my uncle in Queens, NY. We had just moved to this country from Arequipa, Peru and I was 13 years old. We worked during the summer and hated it.

Favorite spot for power networking?

I don’t really have a favorite spot, but I am always networking whenever possible. We have great contacts in the metropolitan area thanks to that.

What will be your first splurge if you make it big?

I am a huge car fan. This is one of the main reasons why we started a car detailing business. My first splurge would most likely be an Audi R8.

Is there something (product, service, person, etc.) you cannot live without in your everyday work life?

I would not be able to live without my iPhone. I have a full-time job in additional to the detailing business and it is vital that I stay in constant contact with my customers and employees. The second “thing” I would not be able to live without would be my brother. He pretty much runs the detailing business while I am at my other job. There is no way I could juggle both jobs on my own.
