The late Greek businessman, artist and collector George Andreas’s tuscan-style estate in Virginia’s horse country can be yours for a mere $21 million.
Just last year before he lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in January 2013, George Andreas (Andreopoulos) was ranked at #11 on The National Herald‘s list of the “50 Wealthiest Greeks in America List 2012.” With a net worth of $975 million from art, real estate and other investments, he came a long way from Nazi occupied Greece.
His four-year apprenticeship with Greek portrait and landscape artist Constantine Artemis, began in 1952, at age 14, grinding pigments and mixing paints, learning about technique and studying composition. While studying with Artemis, Andreas also discovered and was inspired by the paintings of Constantine Parthenes, a progressive artist who spurned tradition.
Andreas 1,500 personal pieces of artwork were kept in a large storage space near Dulles airport. He’s extensive collection of 20th-century artists that includes Calder, Primo Conti, Miró, Rodin, and Vieri Vagnetti.
