Barry Koslow’s new restaurant at The W Hotel DC

The W Hotel is a social hub for so many events in this booming city we call Washington. The hotel powerhouse recently renovated POV, their rooftop terrace, and now Pinea has entered the ranks as one of the city’s newest upscale restaurants.

Introducing Pinea
Barry Koslow

Executive chef, Barry Koslow, who needs no introduction, has transformed this former steakhouse into a Mediterranean-themed hideaway, that offers a lighter fare with a trendier cuisine, adding a new experience to DC’s dining scene. Koslow, former head chef at DGS Delicatessen, invites you to experience the freshest tastes of Southern Europe with their phenomenal menu.

The drink list boasts an impressive variety and entices you with traditional American cocktails by while combining a Mediterranean twist. My favorite is the Kir Normandy. With a combination of a dry cider with a burgundy liqueur, this drink offers a pleasantly festive balance of sweet and spice. A perfect libation to sip over great conversation and it serves as a wonderfully for the holidays.

For starters, the Tuna Crudo is amazingly fresh and light. Perfectly accompanied with lemon, cucumber, and salsa, it cleanses your palate and has you craving for more. For a heartier appetizer, try the charred octopus with potatoes and spicy chorizo. It’s packed with an impressive bold flavor, amazing texture, and an uncompromised freshness.

Everyone overlooks a standard chicken dish on a menu, but missing out on the Sherry Braised Chicken Thighs would be a disservice. Surprisingly succulent, I adore the balance of the dark meat, with just the right amount of toasted almonds, set in a fresh and zesty tomato sauce. The sausage melts in your mouth and is a great side pair.

I must admit, I indulged in their dessert menu. The Coconut Cremeaux is a perfect sorbet finisher that is light but loaded and leaves you feeling satisfied without overdoing it. Another favorite is the Zeppoli di San Giuseppe. This plated donut trio is drizzled with lemon curd with brandied cherries atop.

Pinea is the perfect venue for a great dinner with the ones you love, chatting and catching up, while enjoying the freshest and most flavorful bites of the Mediterranean right here in The District. Pinea is sure to please!
