Start your week with words of wisdom from these philanthropic individuals.
As we’re all here on earth together and we all have to do our part. Jana Sedlakova will explore how these shining stars make a difference.
An elephant nursery situated in Nairobi in Africa, Kenya under the auspices of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, overseen by Dr. Daphne Sheldrick. www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org
Why is this cause so dear to you:
My love for all beings on this earth was there since an early age. I personally show my support by raising funds and awareness for a variety of causes. Children and animals are to me the most important since they are vulnerable and totally dependent on our help.
Having a strong passion for elephants since childhood and learning about the work that The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is doing made their cause one of my favorites in this world!
Elephants are highly intelligent and family oriented. They have a strong family bond. The elephant calf is fully dependent on their mothers milk for the first 2 years of life. They also do not leave their herd until they’re fully grown, which is around 12-15 years old. Due to pouching elephants for ivory many calfs are left alone and cannot survive. Sheldrick Wildlife Trust not only has the perfect match for elephant’s mothers milk but helps these little terrified grieving calfs overcome their loss in a loving environment created by human keepers. They create a new safe loving family and home until they are ready to be released back into the wild.
Next noteworthy fundraiser:
Sip With Socialites‘s “Get Your Own Baby Elephant” held on August 28th from 7-10PM at MXDC Cocina Mexicana in Washington, DC. For more information; http://babyelephant-eorgf.eventbrite.com/
What can others do to help:
People can sponsor a baby elephant for just $50 per year. Baby elephants can be sponsored by individuals or by families with children who I’m sure would love and be happy to care for an orphaned animal. It also can be a great gift for someone who loves animals.
