DC’s Signature Service Project: Unite America in Service needs volunteers to pack care kits for deployed US troops.
Saturday, January 19, 2013
9:00AM – 4:45PM
Washington DC
Inauguration season is quickly sweeping our nation’s capital, again coinciding with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Four years ago, President Obama and his family kicked off a new tradition and opened the 2009 inauguration with a national day of service. This year, on the Saturday before the President’s swearing-in for his second term, Americans are again being urged to make positive change through volunteer service and community engagement.
Erin Lyons and the ladies from Sip With Socialites will be lending a hand, along with thousands, as we honor our nation’s active duty military and veterans, in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision to bridge differences and come together in unity.
On Saturday, January 19th, from 9 AM to 4:45 PM, volunteers will pack 100,000 care kits for deployed US Service Members, Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and First Responders at the DC Armory.
Points of Light and Target have organized this signature national service project in Washington DC to engage the community and show appreciation to those serving our country. Volunteers may sign up individually or as a group for 2.5-hour shifts. Such a small commitment for a wonderful cause.
