What was your first job?
Oh gosh, I had so many jobs before I started college. I think my first job was as a bridal consultant at a Bridal Store. Carrying those heavy wedding dress for demanding brides wasn’t my forte I soon realized.
If you could travel back in time, what is the one piece of advice would you tell your former self?
Well, I definitely had those stern Persian parents who were adamant on their children becoming doctors and lawyers. I did get an engineering degree but I think I would have pursued opening a business in culinary arts from a younger age rather than becoming established in a completely different career then moving towards that goal. Sometimes stability is great as you get older but following a dream also has its rewards even with the risks of uncertainty.
Favorite spot for power networking?
Equinox in Tysons Corner! Tired, hungry, and worked out people need to eat.
Greatest achievement thus far?
Well aside from getting a Mathematics and Computer Science degree as a female in a male dominated field which has nothing to do with my culinary passions, finding a niche in the culinary is something I’m very proud of and will continue to make way for in the future. I think thus far I’ve established that there is a need and desire for this type of food (Persian fusion) and that having the healthy aspect incorporated makes it even more desirable especially for people looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Is there something (product, service, person, etc.) you cannot live without in your everyday work life?
Definitely avocados and my mom!
Where do you see your business in the next 10 years?
Well hopefully my clientele will increase in the future since I’m currently mainly focused on athletes and private services. In the future I would definitely like to open my restaurant with my mom, once she retires and moves to the east coast.
What’s next for you?
Continuing creatively bringing ideas for new recipes and hopefully beginning small group wine/cooking classes within the next year.
… and the actor who would play you in your Biopic would be:
Uhm maybe a fusion between Jennifer Lopez, Natalie Portman, Kourtney Kardashian, and Rashida Jones. I would want someone with looks, intelligence, and of course funny!
There are times when it is hard to believe in the future, when we are temporarily just not brave enough. When this happens concentrate on the present. Cultivate le petit bonheur – the little happiness – until courage returns. Look forward to the beauty of the next moment, the next hour, the promise of a good meal, sleep, a book, a movie, the likelihood that tonight the stars will shine and tomorrow the sun will rise. Sink roots into the present until the strength grows to think about tomorrow. –Ardis Whitman
